Squirrel Hill

| Jan 1, 0001

Squirrel Hill North is home to the charming, leafy campuses of Carnegie Mellon University and Chatham University and features a cluster of indie clothing boutiques, chic decor shops, and bookstores. It also has an eclectic mix of Thai and Indian eateries, pizza joints, and delis on Forbes Avenue. The Murray Hill Historic District is known for its Victorian houses, while nearby Frick Park has woods and trails.

In 2010, about 40% of Squirrel Hill’s residents were Jewish.

The area is becoming Pittsburgh’s new Chinatown, with an influx of mainland Chinese students at Carnegie Mellon University. It celebrates Chinese New Year annually with a parade. As of 2017, about 17% of the area’s residents were Asian.
